WHERE THE SIDEWALK ENDS

There is a place where the sidewalk ends
And before the street begins,
And there the grass grows soft and white,
And there the sun burns crimson bright,
And there the moon-bird rests from his flight
To cool in the peppermint wind.

HOPE FETED

I meditate in green densest wood
Drawn to rest beside a babbling brook,
There flowers drift, nestling thrush perch.
I'd chance listen to hushed morning's stir
When the wet earth wakens fresh, and where
The primrose paths delight men's hearts.

TO THE FIRST ROBIN

Welcome, welcome, little stranger,
Fear no harm, and fear no danger;
We are glad to see you here,
For you sing "Sweet Spring is near."

Now the white snow melts away;
Now the flowers blossom gay:
Come dear bird and build your nest,
For we love our robin best.

TO THE ESTEEMED ROBIN

Days of worry, gloom or sorrow
Old winter's been and gone now.
So our worries we must spurn
When he with beady eye returns.

He comes to sing agreeably
A nobler, fatter redbreast, he!
Sweet comforting, affirming call:
Now life and love await us all.

For swelling waves our panting breasts,
Where never storms arise,
Exchange, and be awhile our guests:
For stars gaze on our eyes.
The compass Love shall hourly sing,
And as he goes about the ring,
We will not miss
To tell each point he nameth with a kiss.
Then come on shore,
Where no joy dies till Love hath gotten more.

Jezebels use bewitching songs: we
Vixen gals whose call will lure man on.
Sailor at night on barge on rollin' sea
Vast fathoms deep, seeking warmth, upon
Reaching dry shore sees its horror too late.
To hear that sweet chant means to die
He sees lust turn to overwhelming hate
Why, soon proves he's a mere foolish guy!

TEARS, IDLE TEARS

Tears, idle tears, I know not what they mean.
Tears from the depth of some divine despair
Rise in the heart, and gather to the eyes,
In looking on the happy Autumn-fields,
And thinking on the days that are no more.

HAUNTED

Hear Tennyson's thoughts in moving poetry
On that enemy, transient time, or see elsewhere
Within art, one artist Millais, dark images.
Alike, they had to ponder fate: a rose perhaps
That faded... or, indeed, think of death.

IT'S A JUNGLE OUT THERE!

It's a jungle out there.
Disorder and confusion everywhere.
No one seems to care. Well, I do.
Hey, who's in charge here?
It's a jungle out there.
Poison in the very air we breathe.
Do you know what's in the water that you drink?
Well, I do, and it's amazing.
People think I'm crazy, 'cause I worry all the time.
If you paid attention, you'd be worried too.
You better pay attention,
Or this world we love so much might just kill you.
I could be wrong now, but I don't think so.

Woe betide anyone like the poor eccentric,
Adrian Monk!
Unfortunately without good health due to injury.
How then, can someone mature, with a disabling Obsessive-
Compulsive Disorder, work as a sleuth, or
enjoy life where they work, when tired, while debilitated?
Yet with bright ideas and opinions.
He does act out meticulously, roughly twenty or
more tortuous, eerie rituals ... worrying out loud.
Puzzling, that.
Yet joking apart, he's a hoot, a winner!
We enjoy it on TV.

"In June, as many as a dozen species may burst their buds on a single day.
No man can heed all of these anniversaries; no man can ignore all of them."
- Aldo Leopold

Some crazy song says I am an underclass,
Man's garden has no charm, just dread
Oh, feeble me, I've failed; no hope alas,
Lonely little petunia in an onion bed.
- Anon
