60 votes! A great turnout and our third highest yet. For the stats freaks (i.e. most of us), I have updated the Voters Page and have added a graph of the average number of voters per year. April was the busiest month on the Forum this year with some new and some old members really coming to life. Deano, in particular, was impressive, gaining over 30 nominations, including some brilliant ones in General, many of which you will see again in Best of the Rest later in the year. Deano was active in alt.anagrams several years ago and has returned to anagramming with great enthusiasm and skill. This month, ten members shared the 14 awards. |
As I mentioned above, Deano had a pile of great anagrams here. However, the choice of the best of his Generals to run here was quite easy. This one stood out and did as well as I expected. After six hours of voting there were 20 votes, and Deano, Scott and David were the leaders. It was not until the 24 hour mark that Deano opened a good lead. Scott was clear second and quite a bunch jockeyed for third place. Deano powered on to a 24 point victory, with Scott always secure in second place and David holding off challenges from Tony and Zoran to pick up third place. This was Deano's fifth win. David's third place was his fifth award this year, but quite unusually, they have all been 2nd's and 3rd's in General or Special, and no actually first places. Overall, he has won 69 awards. |
1 | Deano | 78 | Familiarity breeds contempt = Bet it's typical of married men. |
2 | Scott Gardiner | 54 | A depression = One's despair. |
3 | David Bourke | 35 | The typical blonde-haired woman = On the whole, rated incapably dim. |
4 | Tony Crafter | 31 | A healthy diet = The daily hate. |
5 | Zoran | 25 | The art of seduction = Act of true hedonist. |
Even after six hours, Mey was well clear and increased that lead as the contest progressed. It was a very easy win for him. There was an interesting battle for second. I was in there for the first 24 hours, then Ellie took over, then Dee4j moved up for the minor place. |
1 | Mey Kraus | 69 | Star Clint Eastwood ~ also wants to direct. |
2 | Dee4j | 39 | Tiger Woods is the man! = "Good, I win the Masters!" |
3 | Don Fortier | 32 | Hillary Clinton's black comedy = "Kill My Bill" (any chance, doctors?) |
This was the only close category this month Scott was the leader at 6 hours, with ofap (Old Fart at Play?) just behind and, Mey, my prediction, back in third place. Those positions remained unchanged at 24 hours with five points covering the top three. By the end of Day Two, Mey challenged for the lead, and Adrian and Tony also came into contention. The final 24 hours saw Scott hold on for a narrow win with four points covering second to fifth place. Scott won two awards this month, giving him 16 all up, and moving him into the Top Fifteen on the All Time Table. |
1 | Scott Gardiner | 50 | The traditional Passover meal = To have a Seder is all-important. |
2 | Mey Kraus | 45 | Despite hope, ~ the Pope dies. |
3 | ofap | 44 | Labour Party Manifesto = Tony Blair maps our fate. |
Ellie shot to a big 17 point lead after 6 hours over David with my favourite in this category. David reeled her in to a 6 point margin at 24 hours. However, Ellie broke clear again for a modest win. Although Ellie has been nominated in the past, this was her first win in the Anagrammies. Well done, Ellie. |
1 | Ellie | 80 | Will Shakespeare ~ speaks well, I hear. |
2 | David Bourke | 70 | His Holiness Pope Benedict = Ich bin ein hopeless despot. |
3 | Scott Gardiner | 51 | The apostle Judas = A plot--Jesus' death. |
Did you ever notice that Mey rarely wins by a small margin... it is usually by a mile. Well, he won by 55 points here! |
1 | Mey Kraus | 92 | London's Westminster Abbey = One wanders by silent tombs. |
2 | Don Rogers | 37 | Fat Man and Little Boy = I flatten land by atom. |
3 | Rosie Perera | 34 | US Office of Management and Budget = Fudge; finance mega amounts of debt. |
I had a small lead here after 6 hours, but was soon overhauled by Mey. Mey moved steadily ahead with win by a solid 27 points. |
1 | Mey Kraus | 88 | The movie 'Raiders of the Lost Ark', directed by Steven Spielberg = |
2 | Larry Brash | 61 | NOTE: This forum is moderated. Spam posts will be removed promptly. = |
3 | Deano | 54 | The election candidacies of Tony Blair, Michael Howard and Charles Kennedy ~ |
Before the competition, I had trouble picking a likely winner here. However, the voters had no problem. At 6 hours, Tony was well clear by 15 points. He was nearly 20 points ahead at times, but David and Mey narrowed that gap to just ten points at the end. This was Tony's fourth award this year and he has nine altogether. |
1 | Tony Crafter | 77 | One night I dreamed I was walking along... = Two monks, wandering through the wood... |
2 | David Bourke | 67 | The Queen will miss the civil wedding o... = The 8 vital reasons Prince Charles is... |
3 | Mey Kraus | 66 | Childhood by Michael Jackson Have yo... = (The verdict in the trial of Michael ... |
Mike Keith has been back in amazing form again this year taking this category to new heights. He won the first three months of the year quite easily over our usual champions, Mey, Richard and David. The Tradition continues... if Mike has an entry in Special, he wins. He did it easily again hee, with Mey and Richard very close for the minor place awards, both doing well to stay within 20 points of Mike. Richard's third place gave him six awards for this year and 152 all up. Another great month for Mey with three awards (14 for the year), giving him a grand total of 201 awards. |
1 | Mike Keith | 80 | Tired with all these for restful death I cry... |
2 | Mey Kraus | 63 | The Parson's Tale (that is found in 'The Canterbury Tales' written by Geoffrey Chaucer) |
3 | Richard Grantham | 62 | How like a winter hath my absence been... |
4 | David Bourke | 31 | 'Mandy' - Barry Manilow |
5 | Tony Crafter | 30 | There was a young babe from Skravire... |
As if a win in Special was not enough, Mike did well here with one of his rare short winners (he has won twice before with short anagrams). Mike led out on Day One and was never seriously challenged. Two wins this month, give him five for the year and 28 on the All Time Table. |
1 | Mike Keith | 60 | His large penis ~ is pleasing her. |
2 | Mey Kraus | 50 | A pair of crotchless panties = Has rip for potential access. |
3 | Adrian Hicksford | 31 | Interactive porn = Pervert in action. |
There were few contenders here for this award this, with most of the runners-up well behind the winners. The exception with an anagram from the mysteriously named "ofap" in Topical. Richard did some research and reports that:
His anagram was well in contention in Topical through out the contest.

Congraulations to all the winners. Thank you all for voting.
