How the Rankings work

The Anagrammy Awards Rankings reward those who have won awards in the last 4 years, giving greater value to most recent year's awards, and then reduces the value of awards by 25% per year.

Grand Anagrammy Awards are given double the value of the monthly awards.

Thus, those showing consistent success in recent years and a high current level of involvement will be most highly ranked.

Rankings are adjusted after each monthly competition with winners gaining points. Awards for the same month 4 years before are deducted, so some members' points will go down slightly.

Rankings undergo a major yearly adjustment each January after the Grand Anagrammy Awards, with each year dropping 25% and the scores will usually be considerably lower after this has been done.

As of September 2015, the method of ranking was changed, so that a greater
percentage (25% instead of 20%) was dropped each year over a 4 year period
(instead of 5 years). It is now calculated like this:

  • 100% of the number of awards for the current year
  • 75% of the preceding year
  • 50% of the year preceding that
  • 25% of the year preceding that
  • No points from years preceding that.

Grand Anagrammy Awards follow the same pattern as the monthly awards, but at double the points of the monthly awards. They are now calculated like this:

  • 200% of the number of Grand awards for the most recent competition
  • 150% of the year preceding that
  • 100% of the year preceding that
  • 50% of the year preceding that
  • No points from years preceding that.
As of Aug 15 2016, the rankings tables have reverted to the 48 month rolling calculation described above. HSP
