Results for May 2004

At the end of voting there were 57 votes, but on closer inspection, one person voted twice. As a result, we finished with a record-equaling 56 voters, giving an average of 51 voters so far this year. In the middle of the competition, we had a server outage of approximately 18 hours. My guess is that we would have topped 60 voters, but for that.

It was a very busy on the Forum, too, with over 1000 posts, which is also a new record. We have had a number of new enthusiastic members join us, including Tony Crafter, Chris Doyle and Rick.

GENERAL:

There were a number of high quality anagrams among the 17 starters here this month. Adrian led on Day One by 5 points, but I caught up by the end of Day Three. The end was exciting with me winning by just two points. This was my first General win for several years.

The minor placings were tightly contested with Rick, Mey, Jesse and JNC battling it out. Mey made it by four points.

ENTERTAINMENT:

This was certainly one of my best month's ever, with another strong anagram here. My two point lead on Day One grew, after some challenges from Mey, to a comfortable win by the end of the competition.

3

TOPICAL:

This looked like being an easy win to Toby with a 13 point lead on the first day, but Mey narrowed this and jumped into the lead near the end of the event.

Two wins this month for Adrian give him 11 this year and 48 on the All Time Table.

MEDIUM LENGTH:

It is rare for me to create three anagrams that read as well as my winners did this month. My thanks to Anagram Artist for making these possible. My small lead at the start gradually opened up to relaxed win.

These three wins gave me five awards for this year and 79 all-up.

AWARDSMASTER'S CHALLENGE:

SPECIAL:

Mey was the favourite here, but was briefly overtaken by David on Day Two. The final day saw some dramtic changes with Scott and Richard push David out of the prizes.

Mey had four wins this month and boosts his Grand Total to 164. Richard's two awards bring him up to 138, and Scott's win was his 10th ever.

1

  Mey Kraus

49

4 close paraphrases of 2 poems and 2 literary quotes relating to May. All are anagrams of eachother.

This was Rick's first win since 2000, when he won four awards.

An Incestuous Act = Eat a cousin's cunt.

2

AWARDMASTER'S AWARD FOR THE BEST ANAGRAM OF A NON-WINNING AUTHOR

We have never selected the same author two months running, but we made an exception here this time. We considered JNC's General, Tony Crafter's Rude, but Toby's Topical was leading most of the way and we considered it to be the best of the runners-up.

Toby Gottfried with:
The President of the United States =
This nut pretends to defeat Shi'ites.
