- Awardsmaster's Choice Award for Best Rookie Anagrammatist:
Not awarded this year. - Awardsmaster's Choice Award for Most Improved Anagrammatist:
Looking at the statistics, I have decided to award this to Ellie Dent. She had a very good year in 2016 but in 2017 got nearly twice as many awards (21 compared to 11) and almost 50% more DFE points, topping the month's scoring an impressive 3 times in June, August and November.
- Mick Tully Memorial Award for Most Consistent Anagrammatist:
This year, I would like to honour Adie Pena, who was second only to Tony Crafter for the number of full houses in the year (5) and scored at least one award in eleven out of twelve months in the year. - Daniel F. Etter Memorial Award for Anagrammatist of the Year:
Tony Crafter with 923.93 DFE points, a spectacular 42 wins in the monthly Anagrammy Awards (his third best ever), and 4 wins in the Grand Anagrammy Awards. TC delivers time and again and tends to be get a full house practically every month! Another breathtaking achievement is winning eleven, yes eleven out of twelve specials in 2017. He actually won more than 11 awards in that category, as he has submitted more than one winning entry on more than one occasion. (January March April) and he also came second in the one month he didn't come first. - Special Awards for Services to the Anagrammy Awards:
Larry Brash - Last year I wrote: "without a doubt the Father of the Forum and with eighteen years in the hot seat as Awardsmaster, it is my honour and privilege to bestow upon you this occasional extra award.... We hope to see many more contributions from him in the months and years to come." Sadly that great contribution was cut short, with his untimely death in November. But for the legacy he has left us, rather than a posthumous Grand Anagrammy Award, I would like to propose a new annual Award in his name - The Larry Brash Award for Talent Spotting.
From this month onwards, I will keep a record of who has nominated the anagrams that go on to win their category.
Larry was always a very generous nominator, but above all he was a proponent of the Hallmarks of a Good Anagram and I want his enthusiasm for quality to be recognised by honouring the member of the forum who not only nominates others, but who also has an instinct for those anagrams that have the X-Factor and which go on to win their category.
Winner for 2017:Julian Lofts - There were 10 categories in each of the 12 months and there were three occasions where top spot was jointly awarded, meaning 123 1st place anagrams. Firstly - thanks to everyone who nominated anyone. It is a kind thing to do and without it, the competition can't work. Rosie with over 400 nominations in the year was head and shoulders above the rest. But when it came to choosing future winners, here are the stats regarding the top five 'spotters':Nominator
