- Awardsmaster's Choice Award for Best Rookie Anagrammatist:
I would like to award this to John Murray. He first posted in June as AA, which was a reference to his twitter handle (@AtleticoAnagram), with descriptive anagrams of football squads. They are a fun topic, but he has since diversified and though he won his first award in December with "Racism in football = Manic tribal fools." which is football-related, he has posted many fine creations and has shown good rapport with the forum as a whole, receiving several nominations. - Awardsmaster's Choice Award for Most Improved Anagrammatist:
Three possible recipients this year: Adrian Hickford has come back after a few years away and bosh - 6 awards, his best return in 15 years; Ellie Dent with an impressive improvement on last year in the monthly awards and also some great success in the Grands; but I think I shall give it to Dharam Khalsa, whose 15 awards more than doubles last years's total and this is her best tally since 2009.
- Mick Tully Memorial Award for Most Consistent Anagrammatist:
This year, I would like to once again honour Tony Crafter, who scored at least one award in each of the twelve months. Tony also appears regularly in The Daily Mail's Peterborough column and is kind enough to announce others' appearances there, often sending them scanned images. It is no coincidence that he has won this more than anyone else since its inception :-) - Daniel F. Etter Memorial Award for Anagrammatist of the Year:
Tony Crafter gets this award by a substantial margin with 1017.10 DFE points (a great achievement and puts him once again on the board for members who have had a 1000+ year) and an impressive 37 wins in the monthly Anagrammy Awards. To once again allude to his win the Mick Tully Award (above), Tony does get a lot of his DFE points from his dedication to trying and almost always succeeding, to achieve a full house of nominations every month. - Special Awards for Services to the Anagrammy Awards:
I won't grant any special awards this year, though I would like to thank DB and Mey in particular for their ongoing help in oldie checking and general maintenance, to Rosie for continuing to keep me sane and keep the peace when passion spills over into a bit more than is acceptable and in fact anyone who has intervened taking the heat out of situations that we don't want to see on the forum. - The Larry Brash Award for Talent Spotting.
I had a look into who has nominated the anagrams that go on to win their category in 2019. The results here pointed to only one winner, and while George Missailidis' "scatter gun" approach provided by far the greatest number of nominations (690 or 28% of the total for the entire year) didn't have quite the level of discernment of others (only 4.8% of his noms went on to win their categories), his contribution to the forum has nevertheless been magnificent. Interestingly, Mike M-G and tc actually made more nomintations this year than Rosie, who was traditionally always the most prolific. As a footnote, the top 4 'hit rates' over the year were from Adrian with 4 noms/2 wins (50%), Richard Grantham with 2 noms/1 win (50%) Rick with 4 noms/1 win and me with 193 noms/19 wins (9.8%)
I hope you had a great competition and I would also like to thank the 50 voters.
